As an intern (Jan-2023 through May 2023) on local arts PBS show WETA Arts, I went above and beyond the job description. I pitched this segment and, working closely with the show's senior producer, I was tasked with a high level of responsibility. I set up three field shoots and directed one. I also drafted the initial script of the piece for the editor, overseeing the piece from start to finish. The piece delves into the colorful work of Chalk R!ot, who use ground murals to help reclaim public space for people and support traffic safety. Chelsea Ritter-Soronen shares what it's been like turning art into a business -- and growing that business into on that supports other young artists.
I also pitched and helped conduct a pre-interview for "D.C. Street Photography," which has been nominated for a Capital Emmy! I was glad to see this make air -- D.C. doesn't have as large of a street photography profile as some other cities do, but it still has thousands of stories. Ashley Tillery's photography was a perfect fit. She tells such amazing and intimate stories with her photography, using primarily her iPhone. Her connection to the medium resonates with my own, and I really felt attached to this piece -- though production began as my internship was ending. At my suggestion, this piece was largely shot on gimbal, which breaks from WETA Arts' typical tripod style.
